The
primary responsibilities of the Uniform Patrol Bureau
are:
- To protect life and property.
- To prevent and suppress crime.
- To preserve the public order.
- To apprehend violators of Federal and State Laws, and
County and City Ordinances.
Police Officers assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau
respond to over 20,000 calls for service a year. They provide
the community with basic law enforcement services twenty-four
(24) hours a day. Citizens are able to contact this Department
at any time and receive immediate response to emergency
situations.
The Uniform Patrol Bureau falls under the command of the Operations Captain, with two Watch Commanders (Lieutenants) and is comprised of four shifts, each supervised by a Sergeant. There are two Traffic Officers assigned to the Bureau who are responsible for traffic crashes, speed and aggressive driving enforcement as well as other related traffic assignments. Some individuals assigned to the Bureau serve in other capacities as well, to include the Street Crimes Team, Special Response Team, and Mountain Bike Patrol.
The Watch Commanders coordinate off-duty security contract requests, review permits for special events, maintain statistics and assist in the Bureau's budget preparation.
To report a non-emergency incident to the police,
please call 642-2160. You should dial 9-1-1 to report any
true emergencies (i.e., in-progress crime, fire, or medical).
